‘Mem..’…….really. after all the emails, trailers, actual mither of waiting - i’m a bit let down by the creation dvd. an amazing story to be told but it all seems rushed. in comparison i finally got round to watching ‘punk: attitude’ last weekend – never been desperate as surely no more need be said on it’s subject? wrong – it’s properly ace; history retold fascinatingly. made ‘upside down’ seem not exactly disappointing, just unfulfilling. as books go, the creation story told in ‘my magpie eyes are…’ is thick. so where’s the dvd beef? (i have no idea why i’ve typed that).
most of the artists in creations’ history are fascinating – deserve a fuller, more colourful, rambling treatment.
it does at least close on a pretty amazing late j&mc track. and not fucking mishka.
this is in no way a political post. politics, together with it’s equally deranged twin religion, are not hugely welcome here.
this obama clip is gold though. you know last week when you saw cameron doing the ‘calm down’ thing? the whole thing was embarrassing more than anything. but do you remember the way that complete dick osbourne brayed like a furtive, chinless creep? at the same time – did you see clegg? i actually respected him a bit – he looked awkward.
i suppose it’s like when popstars and footballers start being younger than you, it becomes very easy to criticise. everyting was better in my day (it wasn’t, generally); insert “football players name” gets paid how much? (yes he does); is he wearing trousers or a skirt? (a skirt dad, it’s late, i think it’s WWF, we’re pissed). don’t get me started on that boy george (i won’t, as i said, it’s late….).
back then, politicians were older. i sort of believed they believed what they were saying. occassionally some would even demonstrate common sense. so, despite being against everything they stood for, you spied a flickering fire inside.
now though – seems we’re run by a right bunch. detached, spineless, media-briefed, clueless buffoons. simply building a career. with a slight estuary accent though. and a ”www dot twitter dot com forward slash my fucking name with a stupid fucking matey Y at the end”. to keep in touch.
obamas’ been getting it over there too. birth certificates. graphs going the wrong way. and that country is bigger than this one. so i find this clip fascinating. usually, any public figure facing a huge tv audience with hot topics bubbling under =(1) no show (2)bland platitude or (3)complete avoidance……these are all go-to options. acknowledging, even addressing, is risky.
so, the president of the usa. i don’t know if this is amazing or the actual end of days:
