lots of reforming chat tonight….the ‘definitive’ book is out next year carrying a large publishing advance and all of that, so it looks more likely this time. reni just now saying he’s not in though – it’s all or nothing surely.
this recording is from when it was all wide-eyed and genuinely exciting…..(fogged stream-of-conscious recall via the ’read more’ button – warning; contains colloquialism & local minutiae. mon.)
the stone roses, park lane shrewsbury 25/05/1989 (soundcheck and gig – mediafire)
bootleg description quoted from the bootleg guide on excellent fansite thestoneroses.co.uk
“Sound Quality: B - Clear and steady, but distorts during particularly loud sections. Sound check is in marginally better quality than the gig.
Performance Quality: A - Very melodic performance. Squire’s jangling guitar with Ian and Reni’s great vocals. This is one of Ian’s best ever live performances – not even a glitch on the chorus of Resurrection.
Why should I get this bootleg? The best ever live performance of Made Of Stone is on here, and great performances of Where Angels Play and Standing Here are too. Also funny to hear Ian shout to someone in the audience “Sit down man – you’re making a spectacle of yourself” and hear the audience all laugh at him. This causes a fight, which Ian tries to calm down during the opening to Adored!”**
The Sound Check (20 mins):
1. Ian solo singing verses of I Am The Resurrection
2. Ian clicking some drum sticks
3. Mani solo playing: an unknown bassline, She Bangs The Drums bassline, Waterfall bassline (small bit)
4. Squire solo playing very small bit of Waterfall
5. Mani solo playing She Bangs The Drums bassline, Waterfall bassline, unknown bassline, funky bassline
6. Roadies/crew/band/promoter talking
7. Squire solo playing part of Made Of Stone (x2), Elephant Stone intro, and final solo on I Am The Resurrection
8. Whole band playing vocals part of Waterfall (no backing vocals)
9. Ian complains he can’t hear Reni
10. Reni sings part of Waterfall solo
11. Squire and Reni briefly mess about
12. Whole band play I Am The Resurrection
The Gig (55 mins):
1. She Bangs The Drums
2. I Wanna Be Adored
3. Elephant Stone
4. Made Of Stone
5. Waterfall
6. Where Angels Play
7. Shoot You Down
8. Standing Here
9. Sally Cinnamon
10. I Am The Resurrection

occasionally – ie here, now – i’m a total sucker for this sound. straightforward but hooky as fuck provinicial english indie made by boys with guitars and a clue.

had totally forgotten about 120 days, and so it’s delightful to know they’re back. loved the 1st album, saw them around the time it was out – the gig should’ve been on a sparkling space ship, joyriding through the galaxy – however it was midweek, at the jug of ale in brum.
at the time i think the lp was ultimately through sony and, despite good reviews etc, it seemed destined to get totally lost.

a younger me – just at 6th form, dreaming of bright city lights, on the of cusp rave – at this point i am the regulation bowiefan/indieboy/hip hop combo. when nme says jump, i’ll ask is jim reid doing guitar and is it on shrinkwrapped def jam.
at home one day the doorbell rings. i answered it. Read the rest of this entry »
going through a slight library phase a while ago i got this kpm allstars lp – my first ever and still only full mp3 album purchase - and have only just got round to listening to it properly…. Read the rest of this entry »
now then, this is seriously worth getting.
after what sounds like a drunken challenge, heavyfeet set themselves the task of remixing 8 current mancunian ‘indie’ bands in just one month. wanting to snapshot 2011 manchester whilst channelling spirits of late80s,early90s/madchester/balearic/indie-dance and taking it, like a carpark, next-level ….
